FOR GRANTMAKERS

The database is a tool for funders to identify and support projects of all types: quality content projects, initiatives to support media policies, and projects that ensure sound and accessible media infrastructure. The projects-in-progress found in the database can be at any phase of completion: research, development, production, dissemination, distribution, outreach, audience engagement, or evaluation.

Funders of all types, sizes and experience levels can learn about promising projects that have been vetted and supported by their grantmaker peers. Funders with ready access to strong projects can benefit by generating other potential funders for projects they are supporting.

Funders need not be traditional “media funders” to benefit from the resources offered here.

We encourage funders of all kinds and interests to explore the site for projects targeting your issue area(s) – whether it be health, human rights, poverty, education, the environment, arts and culture or any of a myriad of other program areas. There is something here for everyone.

Find new projects to add to your portfolio by searching for projects that match your program areas.

Highlight your funding and leverage your support by encouraging your grantees to upload their projects to the database to find additional grant support.

More About Searching for Projects

Projects within the GFEM Media Database are organized by project type into three main categories: content, policy and infrastructure. When searching for projects, note the tabs at the top of the page that allow you to toggle between the three category areas. Click on each tab to see the projects listed under that particular area.

Content Projects - Projects designed for film or electronic media platforms: television, radio, theaters, web sites, mobile content, installations and more;

Policy Projects - Projects that focus on addressing media policy issues. Projects within this category may focus on issues such as advocacy, education, government policy and access.

Infrastructure Projects - Projects related to deploying or reinforcing the infrastructure required to bring media to audiences. Projects in this area have to do with innovation, development, training, capacity building and support of small or large-scale information delivery and telecommunications systems. This can include community-based media arts centers, PEG access centers, public or community radio and television stations, mobile, satellite, or other systems.
