This is the story of the doctor who stopped the drug thalidomide from coming into the US in the early 1960s. The drug was the cause of severe birth defects in children in 47 countries before Richardson Merrill tried to get a license in the US through the Federal Drug Administration to sell the drug in the US. Kelsey did not trust the data that the drug company was giving her concerning testing the drug on pregnant women. This led her to deny them the license.

Our School is a captivating and often funny story about hope and race, and an elegy about generational prejudice and squandered opportunities.
